Things are Heating Up at the Refuge
As winter sets in, the colder temperatures bring unique challenges to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge. Keeping our animals safe, warm, and comfortable during this season comes at a significant cost—but it’s a commitment we make without hesitation.
Altogether, it costs $35,288 to keep the Refuge operational and our animals safe during the winter months. Here are some components of what your support today will do to ensure our residents’ warmth during the coldest months of the year.
Costs of Winter
- $50 for heating bulb replacements for big cats.
- $150 for fuel to run our plows.
- $288 for shovel replacements to clear animal nighthouses after every storm.
- $650 to replace heaters for small cats.
- $2,000 for mulch to keep the cats’ dens warm.
- $3,000 keep paths safe; salt & ice.
- $7,500 in propane for the indoor heaters
- $20,650 for electricity to power heaters and maintain warmth throughout the Refuge.
As the temperatures drop, we need your help to ensure the animals at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge stay safe and warm.
We’re making progress, but we need your support to close the gap. Here’s how you can make an impact this winter:
